Webwide first converts a web page into a single column of
information, starting at the top left of the page, simplifying
complicated layouts and menus.
The vocabulary available with the Widgit Literacy Symbols contains
well over 20,000 words. Clearly this will not cover everything.
Our aim is to provide as wide a vocabulary as possible to
meet the needs of users who have text difficulties.
There will always be some words that cannot be symbolized, for example proper names and jargon. However, with the combination of symbols, pictures and speech output, information will be much more accessible with Webwide than without it.
This vocabulary is being extended on a daily basis. Because the symbols are accessed over the Internet, you will be able to see the new vocabulary as it is created. So if there are words that are important that do not have images, then please let us know by emailing webwide@widgit.com. It is helpful to have both the words and the URL where they are used. This will enable us to see the context for the word. |
