Reading Rods® for ELLs Basic Vocabulary Building Kit is an engaging manipulative-based kit that provides students, who are not native speakers of English, with meaningful instruction in English.
Reading Rods® for ELLs Basic Vocabulary Building Kit covers alphabet awareness, introductory phonics and word-building concepts, and helps students develop critical vocabulary using high-interest themes, with 16 theme-based, lessons on meaningful topics like school, shapes, sizes, weather, animals, neighborhood, community, seasons and more.
Each lesson provides an instructional path for multimodal learning, supporting a rich context for learning, remembering and expanding new vocabulary. Supports state language arts and English Language Learner standards.
How Does It Work?
An easel book with songs, chants and illustrations and audio CD form the foundation of each lesson, teaching key vocabulary through listening, speaking, reading and writing activities you can present either in order or as you choose to complement your own curriculum. Customizable to each student&'s needs and abilities, the Kit can be used for small-group or individual instruction. Features home-involvement activities to help students make connections between school and home culture and language, and build background knowledge.
