About Mayer-Johnson

Mayer-Johnson is built on the belief that all individuals, including those with unique learning challenges presented by speech, language, physical and/or learning disabilities arising from Autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disability, etc., should have an opportunity to learn in ways that support their individual needs.

First launched in 1981, Mayer-Johnson's Picture Communication Symbols (PCS^™), simple drawings that represent everything from single words to full messages, support this ideal. They are designed to help all students establish a foundation for comprehension so they can learn and develop skills. Currently, there are more than 30,000 PCS^™ available in 44 languages. In 1991, PCS^™ were joined together with the Boardmaker Software Family.

The Boardmaker® Software Family, a symbol database combined with an easy-to-use drawing program, is the cornerstone of the Mayer-Johnson product line. The software enables educators to create and adapt lessons to meet a range of unique learning challenges. Today, Mayer-Johnson's Boardmaker Software Family remains the top choice among professionals for creating printed and on-screen materials, like communication boards, symbol-adapted books, flash cards, schedules and more.
