Listen & Respond is an interactive software program designed to introduce and reinforce the connection of a verbal request to pictures or words within seven familiar environments.

The environments include a:

• Cafeteria
• Convenience store
• School store
• Farmers' market
• Hardware store
• Boutique
• Sporting goods store

How it works
Very useful for transitional skills, life skills and pre-vocational skills training, LISTEN & RESPOND helps students build these skills through the use of role-playing. In the seven stores, a student works behind the counter.

1. Customers come up to the counter one by one ordering one or two items that would normally be carried in that type of store.
2. The student must select the correct choice button to fill the customer's order. (The cafeteria, convenience store, and school store have an additional activity where the customer requests two items at once.)

Listen & Respond automatically records data and can be viewed in a spreadsheet or text format. There are many options that can be customized and saved for each student separately.

Some of these options include:

• Setting the number of choice buttons appearing on the screen. You can set as little as 1 or as many as 10.
• Choice of stores to be shown.
• Specify which items can be requested by the customer. The program includes 144 different items to choose from.
• Determine the frequency of the store manager's positive or encouraging comments.
• Set the access method to a touch window, mouse, auto scanning with 1 switch, or step scanning with 2 switches.
• Select pictures, words, or both pictures and words to appear on the choice buttons.
• Turn auditory scanning of choice buttons on or off.
• Choose from a variety of prompt images.
• Hide incorrect choices so that the student will not select them again.
